Wine Of The Week

Tarapaca Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 Gift Boxed - $10.95
Chile
This South American company continues to offer some of the best value, full-flavoured wines available. With a deep, purpley-garnet colour it is wonderfully complex showing more nuances than outright aromas, suggesting blackberry, red licorice and a hint of spice. The palate delivers leather and spice with firm tannins, a trace of wood and slightly tart acidity. Medium-full bodied with very good length, it's an excellent value in a full-blooded cab, and ready packaged to take along as a gift. (LCBO 623603) Available without the gift box for $1.95 less (LCBO 249599)

Statement of Purpose

My Wine of the Week is selected on the basis of "bang for the buck." I taste 100-200 wines each month hoping that I'll find at least a few that offer good, every day value. My weekly picks are loosely based around a $12 ceiling, and must be readily available. These are not blockbuster wines, but wines that are affordable and offer above average value. Oddly enough, some are truly extraordinary and can compete toe-to-toe with wines costing far more.
